I wonder if those who protest against us dolls are the most conservative or extreme voices? And as you say, those perhaps who are living in fear of being ‘replaced’. Maybe it’s some kind of reaction to the way in which society has actually opened up more and more to the reality of people having different sexual/relational orientations? It might be interesting to do a poll or in-depth study of how...
Hi Blaze
The problem with conservative viewpoints is that in-between the puritans and pious lie those with ulterior motives for their disgust, hence creating a smokescreen. As a Transgender woman I log onto Facebook every day to see yet another natal woman screaming from the parapets that people like me are somehow "colonising" their bodies for a sexual fetish when all I am doing today is checking the oil on the car and heading to Lidl for a big bag of chewy fruit sweets afterwards.
Many of my sisters spend a lot of time and money on changing their bodies to who they feel they are innately and some are very very beautiful. Some (but obviously not all) women IMHO, don't like threats in the form of anything they perceive to be somehow better than them so go on the attack, reducing us to the level of depraved sexual fetishist. There's also a negative current infecting these shores from the US which is pushing a pseudo-Christian culture war to divide and conquer away from more serious issues with hypocritical themes of morality and purity.
Dolls present a challenge to these viewpoints which isn't taken on the merit of obvious psychological and social benefit they provide. Sadly, the bigoted and corroded will "other" them because of the perceived
"humanity" in terms of visual image they present. Some dolls (again, IMHO) do look suspiciously Lolita-esque and I wouldn't want anything to do with them, and that's further fuel for the fire, but I know that some of that problem is the limitations of the material they are made of, could you imagine the lifting technique needed on a 6ft2in Amazonian goddess made of TPE? 😂
I will have gone the long way about it by way of university thesis, but basically the Uncanny Valley still has a wide bridge to cross between fear and acceptance...
